~p

Reclamation, Survey Section of the Field Engineering Branch, Grand
Junction Project/s Office.

2. Conceptual Plan. Completed June 1994.

3. BioloQical Inventorv/HvdroloQical MonitorinQ. A fishery inventory of
the site will be conducted to describe the present fish community,
prior to- and following any proposed action. Species composition and
relative abundance data will be obtained. If significant numbers of
non-native fishes, i.e. green sunfish, black bullhead, are discovered
in the pond that is currently isolated from the river, rotenone will
be used to eradicate all fish in the pond, prior to the pond being
reconnected to the river. Water levels and the area inundated will be
monitored with staff gages and aerial photos; short- and long-term
changes in the flood plain will be monitore~in addition to the
adjoining channel geomorphology.

4. NEPA Compliance. An umbrella programmatic document will be developed
for the Flooded Bottomlands Habitat Program. As individual sites are
identified for pilot studies or restoration, a site specific document
or categorical exclusion will be developed. Cultural resources and
permitting will be conducted within the framework of this task. This
work will be conducted by the program's environmental compliance
coordinator with the Bureau of Reclamation Grand Junction Project's
Office.

5. Site Oesiqn. EnQineerinQ. and Construction. The conceptual plan
already adopted provides the details on the specific action proposed
for this site. The I-foot contour topography map will assist
engineers in determining the width and depth of the reconnect ion
channel and designing any water and/or fish control features. It is
perceived that this work will be accomplished by the Bureau of
Reclamation's Grand Junction Project's Office. FWS will provide
general study coordination during this phase. .

VII. Task Description
(see VI. Study Methods/Approach above for description)

1. Topography Mapping.

2. Biological Inventory/Hydrological Monitoring.

3. NEPA Compliance.

4. Site Design, Engineering, and Construction.
5. Analyze and Evaluate Data; Write Draft and Final Reports

4
