DESCRIPTION OF RIVER SEGMENTS
USED IN THE HYDROLOGIC ANALYSIS

In this analysis, the San Juan River basin has been divided into segments,

with estimates of historic and virgin stream flows made for each segment. The

following is a description of the river segments.

A.

The San Juan River above the Fagosa Springs stream gage. Streamflow

at this location is contributed by the headwaters of the San Juan River

including tributaries above the Fagosa Springs stream gage.

B.

The Rio Blanco above the Blanco Diversion Dam stream gage. Streamflow

at this location is contributed by the headwaters of the Rio Blanco includ~

ing tributaries above the stream gage.

The Navajo River above the Edith stream gage. The streamflow in this
river segment is contributed by the headwaters of the Navajo River and
its tributaries above the Edith stream gage.

Middle San Juan River Tributaries. The streamflow in this segment of

the San Juan River is contributed by tributaries to the San Juan River

below the Pagosa Springs gage and the Rio Blanco below the Blanco

Diversion Dam stream gage and above the confluence with the Navajo

River.

Lower Navajo River Tributaries. The stream flow in this segment of

the Navajo River is contributed by the tributaries of the Navajo River

below the Edith stream gage, areas that are primarily located within

New Mexico.

Lower San Juan River Tributaries. The streamflow in this segment of

the San Juan River is contributed by tributaries of the San Juan River

below the confluence with the Navajo River and above the inlet to Navajo

Reservoir above the Carracas stream gage.

~9-

;~ ,-'.'
