<br />Colorado rhen were ;tdministacd by the State Engineer of Colorado <br />according to tneir decreed priorities until July 13, 1953, when, as .1 <br />result of a flash flood on the Purgatoire River following a local cloud- <br />burst on the night of July 1 I, 1953, a quantity of water was :lccumu- <br />Iated in the reservoir. Upon due notice being given to the Star~ Engineer <br />uf Colorado, subsequent releases of water from the rt.:st'Cvoir \vere made <br />in tlccordance with the concurrent demands of both state..; during the <br />period July 13 to 30, inclusive. The reservoir \1,.'as empty again at the <br />end of that time and administration of wat..:r rl'::!hts on the river in <br />Colurado reverted again to thc State Engineer o( Colorado. Early in <br />August and during the last half of that month thac were fresnets on the <br />Purgatoire River ;csulting in the temporary aCCllffiUIJtion of some \VJtcr <br />in the reservoir. It was empty on August 30, 1953, ;ll1d remained so to <br />the end of the Compact ye;l( on OctoJ.~r ~,1, 1953. <br />Rcl~as('s from the reservoir during- the period April 1 to 13, jn- <br />c1usive, and July 13 to 30, inclusiw, amounted to a total of 59,100 <br />acre-feet.
