This late <br /> <br />season water was needed because this is the time when it is es- <br /> <br />sential that the crops get their water. In the months of May <br />3 <br />and June water was plentiful because of the spring run-offs, <br /> <br />so the need for supplemental water was greatest in late swa~er. <br /> <br /> <br />The needs ~these vario~s irrigation companies differed <br /> <br /> <br />conditions, weather, erosion, and the type of <br /> <br />according to soil <br />4 <br />crops grown, <br /> <br />but it was still a basic fact that all of these <br /> <br />irrigation companies needed additional water to meet the needs <br />of their areas. In the early 1920's the irrigation companies <br />determined they would need supplemental water to grow their crops <br />5 <br />in the near future. May 1926 marked the start of the movement <br />as a committee representing the Chamber of Commerce oft~ Arkan- <br />sas Valley Ditch Association to consider researching ~ supplemen- <br />6 ' <br />tal water program.
