<br />N <br />~~ <br />...... <br />o <br /> <br />The Soil Conservation Service is designing' and assisting farmers to install <br />irrigation systems to reduce irrigation return flow. As of September 1984, <br />318 contracts have been developed for assistance on 44,275 acres. Surface <br />irrigation systems are currently being, planned for 31 cooperators on 2,990 <br />acres and 63 applicants are awaiting assistance on 5,951 acres, and treatment <br />shoul" reach 53,216 acres of "the ,total 65,000 acres in the project. Sillce,: <br />'implementation of the Colorado River salinity program began in 1975, the ' <br />irrigation return flows have been reduced about half or,approximately 100,000 <br />acre-feet. ' <br /> <br />, Level basin systems are being installed and irrigated through jack gates with <br />an irrigation head of 15 to 20 cfs to each basin. For proper irrigation <br />management the water turned out to each basin is accurately measured and the <br />time se.t, to within 5 minutes to replenish the soil lBOisture.
