<br />Q <br />r:') <br />(:l <br />00 <br />(.0 <br />"""" <br /> <br />EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br /> <br />The Upper Gunnison-Uncompahgre Phase I Feasibility Study is being carried <br />out to identify financially feasible, environmentally sound, water resource <br />management and development alternatives within the study area. This study <br />consists of 16 work tasks. This memorandum presents the results of the first <br />two tasks: Collect and Review Existing Data, and Describe Existing Water <br />Resource Systems and Recreation Facilities. <br /> <br />COLLECT AND REVIEW EXISTING DATA <br /> <br />The purpose of this task is to obtain and review reports and data related <br />to the Gunnison Basin which are pertinent to the present study. The <br />information collected will be used to provide background information for <br />subsequent work tasks throughout the study process. The results of reviewing <br />existing data will provide information regarding areas where data is lacking <br />and must be supplemented. <br /> <br />The primary sources of information included the following: the U.S. <br />Bureau of Reclamation (USBR); the U.S. Corps of Engineers (COE); the Colorado <br />Water Conservation Board (CWCB): the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS): the <br />Colorado State Engineers Office (SEO); the Colorado Division of Wildlife <br />(CDOW): the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM); the National Park Service <br />(NPS); the U.S. Forest Service (USFS): the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service <br />(USFWS): the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service (SCS): <br />and municipalities; recreational entities, environmental organizations, and <br />agricultural water user groups within the study area. <br /> <br />The data collected under Task No.1 included the following: reports of <br />previous studies: topographic, geologic and land use maps; hydrologic data: <br />climatologic data: water rights data; water diversion data; historical water <br />use data; wildlife (including fishery) data; water quality data; data related <br />to the environment, in the study area: recreational use data: and demand <br />forecasts. <br /> <br />A comprehensive bibliography of references related to the study area was <br />prepared and is included in this memorandum.
