COLORADO-BIG THOMl'SON PROJECT <br /> <br />Outline of Construction and Operating Conditions <br /> <br />The Colorado-Big Thompson projeot in Colorado oontamplates the di?ersion <br />of surpl waters b'an the headwaters of the Colorado River on the Paoitio or <br />western s ope to lands in northeastern Colorado on the Atlantio or eastern slope <br />greatly i need of supplemental irrigation water. <br /> <br />1'0 a oomplish this diversion. the following features are required. <br /> <br />ON COLORADO RIVER <br /> <br />(1) <br />located a <br />Colorado <br />eastern s <br /> <br />Storage on the Blue River in what is oalled Green Mountain Reservoir <br />out 16 miles southeast of Kremmling. Colo.. where the Blue enters the <br />iver. This, reservoir is to be used to replaoe water diverted to the <br />ope that wOuld be required by prior ri~hts along the Colorado River. <br /> <br />(2) <br />flow of th <br />eleotrical <br /> <br />hydroelectrio plant below the Green Mountain ~ to utilize the <br />Blue River and Water stored in the reservoir for the generation of <br />energy. <br /> <br />(3) storage reservoir located on the Colorado River about 6 miles north- <br />east of Gr nby, Colorado., to be known as Granby Reservoir. This reservoir will <br />store the low of the Colorado at this point as well as water diverted from <br />Willow Cre k. a tributary of the Colorado and Strawberry and Neadow Creeks, <br />tributarie of the Fraser River. <br /> <br /> <br />(4) <br />North Fork <br />Grand Lake. <br />will have t <br />mountain di <br />together wi <br /> <br />diversion dam located about one-half' mile below the junotion of the <br />nd Grand Lake outlet and about .3 miles scuth of the village of <br />This dam will oreate a lake known as Shadow Mountain Lake whioh <br />e S9.l!lll elevation as Grand Lake and will aid in supplying the trans- <br />rsion tunnel with water pUlllp&d .from Granby ReservOir. This lake <br />h Grand Lake is to be kept: at nearly oonstant level. <br /> <br /> <br />(,) A electrioally driven pwnpinc; plant on the shore o.f Granby Reservoir, <br />where water ill be pwnped into a canal feeding Shadow Mountain and Grand Lakes. <br />The length f the oanal is 4.1/2 miles. <br /> <br />(6) ~outlet channel at ,the east end of Grand Lake oamecting the lake <br />with the po al of e. transmountain diversion tunnel and provided with oontrol <br />features t will regulate the level of (<rand Lake wi thin a fluotuating range <br />o.f 1 foot. <br /> <br />(7) A ransmountain diversion tunnel under the Continental Divide 13.1 <br />miles in Ie th extending from Grand Lake to a point in \find River about 5 milElS <br />southwest of Estes Park village. <br /> <br />ON EASTERN SLOPE <br /> <br />(8) A, nduit 5.3 miles in length extending frc'1 diversion tunnel outlet <br />to penstook a power plant on the Big Thompson Riyer just below Estes Park <br />village. Thi oonduit will be made up of buried pip&, siphons, tunnels, and <br />open oanal. t will be entirely oonoealed through'the area authorized to be <br /> <br />j <br />
