240,000 lrw. Since the third circuit, in the case of the

Bureau, is for the transmission of secondary energy, which

must bo backcd bV an auxiliary st,;am 1l1ant during periods

of low water, it is obvious that considerable additional

steam plant capacity will be r6quiro~ bv tho addition of
tho third circuit.

For tho transmission of greater quantities of power

from Boulder Power Plant to Los Angeles, as assumed by N~.

Sands in his report, an additional group of lines consist-

ing of two or thrl'c circuits, oporatinl': in parallel, will

be required. The operation of three circuits in parallel
imuosos a limit duty on all of the present switching and
station apparatus, which apparatus is the largest of its
kind ever built. Additional lines, oporated in parallel
with tho present three, would irr,ose duties on tho present
enuipment far in excess of thoir rating and require more
than a proportional increas8 in tho nQ~ber of circuit
breakers required at present. This procedure would there-
fore mean renlacing all of the nresont switchinf equipment
with that of a muoh greater ratinp than has over been de-
signed or constructod under the pro sent development of tho

art, and th,)reforc, would very materiall v increase the; in-

vestmont, possibly beyond economic limits and still not be
