.

.

eliminated, the locations of others were changed so as to better suit

the power flows, and it was found that others could be deferred for

a time with resulting saving of interest charges. The objective of

these power flow studies was to secure the most economical trans-

mission system, regardless of ownership of the various components,

and to secure the benefits of interconnections and integrated

operation of the interconnected system.

A recent proposal for the construction ofa large thermal

generating station with an initial generating capacity of 150,000

kilowatts, and an ultimate generating capacity of 350,000 kilowatts,

with a possible eventual increase to 600,000 kilowatts in Northern

Colorado in the vicinity of Craig, has a very important impact upon

the plans for the C.R.S.P. transmission system. The power from such

a plant would be used to supply part of the project power requirements

in Colorado, and by displacement, permit an equivalent amount of

hydro power from Glen Canyon to be delivered to the load centers in

Arizona. Studies indicate that the proposed thermal generating

station in Northern Colorado would effect a reduction in the cost of

the C.R.S.P. transmission system of something of the order of $15,000,

000. Other benefits resulting from such a thermal generating station

are reduction of transmission losses, firming up the C.R.S.P. hydro

power during low water periods, utilization of Colorado's coal

resources, and supplying low cost thermal generated energy to

Arizona where fuel costs are much higher, and additional revenues to

C.R.S.P. from wheeling thermal generated energy over project trans-

mission lines.

13
