003359

ARIZONA:

RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT

Little Colorado River Plateau RC&D Area

Construction is underway on planned improvements for the Sun Valley
Domestic Water Supply and Distribution System. Some $450,000 worth
of improvements are planned. The Lyman Lake Sediment - Water
Capacity Survey has been completed. 'Field surveys are underway on
the Round Valley Irrigation System reorganization measure which
involves some 40 miles of main irrigation canal, Planning is con-
tinuing on the Schoens Dam Flood Control Measure, which is
planned for construction in 1985-86, The Clear Creek Dam (Irrigation
Water Storage and Recreation) Measure and the Apache County Underground
Water Study Measures have been completed. Assistance is being provided
to the community of Greer, which is experiencing water quality problems
due to inadequate sewage effluent disposal.

Emphasis continues to be placed on associated measures and the Council
is taking special efforts to involve more rural unincorporated
communities in program activities.

Cocopai RC&D Area

Planning is underway on the Sheep Trail Critical Area Treatment
Measure near Cornville. Gully erosion is creating a serious problem.
This is a potential RC&D cost-share measure. Planning is continuing
on the Watson Lake Recreation Measure near Prescott. Additional
water quality studies are planned for this fall, Also, the City of
Prescott plans to improve park facilities on land they own near the
lake. -

Emphasis continues to be placed on associated measures with planning
and/or construction underway on the Chino Valley Sanitary Landfill,
Chino Valley Irrigation System Improvements, Peck's Lake Improvement,
Fredonia Farm Irrigation System Reorganization, Camp Verde and Black
Canyon City Community Park and Recreation facilities.

Hohokam RC&D Area

Work is progressing to revise the area plan. Two counties have been
added to the RC&D area. The plan should be completed in early 1985.

Measure activities include preliminary planning for a flood prevention
project southwest of Phoenix, acquisition of a $13,000 'grant for an
archaeological development near Gila Bend, and an associated measure
to develop a multi-purpose dam on'the Hassayampa River.

The RC&D' Council is working with the Economic Development
Administration and local agencies to evaluate the need and
feasibility of forming an economic development district. The
district would coincide with the RC&D area boundaries, and would
utilize the present Council as a board of directors.

D-13

~ -~
