DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE <br />Semi-Annual Report <br />Pacific Southwest Inter-Agency Committee <br />July 1, 1983 - June 30, 1984 <br /> <br />SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE <br /> <br />RIVER BASIN PLANNING <br /> <br />ARIZONA: Little Colorado River Basin Cooperative Study <br /> <br />Except for providing reports as requested, our activities in this <br />study are completed. <br /> <br />Colorado River Indian Reservation Cooperative Study <br /> <br />Working papers were prepared on the description of basin, archaeology, <br />recreation, crop production on existing and new lands, and fish and <br />wildlife. SCS and ARS completed the measurement program to determine <br />the amount of project water spills. On-farm and off-farm water bud- <br />gets were completed. Work is in progress to analyze new land development, <br />by parcel, for the valley and parts of the mesa, <br /> <br />Pinal AMA Study <br /> <br />Work commenced in August 1982. Inventory data collected to date <br />includes acreage base by crop, archaeology. water cost, water supply and <br />water quality. Crop budget generator is operational, Over 40 case <br />histories have been collected to determine the impact of conservation <br />land treatment. LP model for each of four irrigation districts is near <br />completion. Final report is scheduled for December 1984. <br /> <br />Central Arizona Groundwater Conservation Study <br /> <br />This new river basin study began in the second half of FY-84. The <br />purpose of this study is to identify and prioritize specific areas <br />for USDA assistance to improve irrigation efficiencies with on-farm <br />land treatment through PL-566 projects. The study area includes the <br />areas in central Arizona dependent upon declining groundwater supplies. <br /> <br />Floodplain Manaqement Studies <br /> <br />Arizona began two floodplain management studies in FY-84: Frye Creek <br />Tributary in Graham County; and Town of Eagar in Apache County. <br />Authorizations to begin studies were obtained in January 1984 and <br />work is progressing on both studies. <br /> <br />t)-1 <br /> <br />~-,~~ <br />
