tool such as the MULTISYM produc-
tion cost model is essential to accu-
rately model the interaction of potential
long-tenn replacement power re-
sources with the interconnected
system,

Although specific transmission im-
provements were not explicitly modeled
as part of the proof-of-concept analy-
sis, the analysis results do illustrate how
the location of the replacement re-
source will affect the flow of power on
Western's system. While MULTISYM
can model contractual transmission
path constraints and identifY their affect
on economic dispatch and reliability,
traditional power-flow analysis will be
necessary to study transmission effects
in detail.

. Appropriate sources for interconnected
system load and resource data were
identified and tested, and will be appro-
priate for Western to use in maintaining
a current database to use in evaluating
replacement resource~.

Data gathering and implementation
resulted in a useable database for
Western as a starting point for actual
evaluations. The models developed
during the proof-of-concept analysis
were in a relatively advanced stage of
implementation as work was completed
on this study, reducing the amount of
additional work for Western prior to
perfonning actual replacement resource
evaluations.

m
