<br />considered for fiscal year 1983. A reevaluation of the original evapora- <br />tion pond/desalting plan has resulted in consideration of new concepts <br />for salinity control. Efforts are underway .to work with local water users <br />to formulate a comprehensive water management plan for the Las Vegas Wash <br />that would include salinity control, wastewater management, and recreation/ <br />wildlife habitat land use measures. A status report is scheduled in 1981. <br /> <br />Cons tructi on <br /> <br />Central Arizona Project. The project is a water conveyance system which will <br />de 1 i ver an average of 1. 2 mi 11 i on acre-feet per year of Ari zona 1 s 2.8 mi 11 ion <br />acre-feet:annua1 entitlement of the Colorado River water from Lake Havasu to <br />the counties of Maricopa and Pinal (beginning in 1985) and Pima (beginning <br /> <br />in 1987, with water deliveries to the Tucson area beginning in ;988). <br />The project has the potential of reducing the 1970 level of overdraft <br />of groundwater in the three-county service area by two-thirds. A <br />significant portion of the water supply will be made available to several <br />central Arizona Indian tribes. In the summer of 1981, about 170 miles of <br />the 370-mi1e water conveyance system were completed or under construction. <br />The Central Arizona Water Control Study being conducted jointly with the <br />Corps of Engineers is nearing completion. CAP alternatives for regula- <br />tion of project water and flood control on the Salt and Verde Rivers are <br />being evaluated. A draft environmental impact statement is scheduled <br />for early 1982. Advance planning studies are continuin~ on the Tucson <br />Division, Indian Distribution Division, and Hooker Dam (NM) or suitable <br />alternative portion of the Gila River Division. <br /> <br />Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Project, Title I. Construction <br />of the Yuma Desalting Plant is continuing along with associated Title I <br />deve 1 opment; Coache 11 a Canal rep 1 acement i.s comp 1 ete and in opera ti on <br />with automatic control equipment to be completed. Fish and wildlife <br />mitigation on the Coache11a Canal is nearin.g completion. . <br /> <br />Southern Nevada Water Project. Stage I of the project was completed in <br />1971 and has the capability of providing Clark County municipalities <br />with 132,000 acre-feet per year. Stage IIof the project should be <br />completed in March 1983 and would increase the total project design <br />de1iverycapaci ty to 431,000 acre-feet per year (depletion of up to <br />300,000 acre-feet). This delivery capability is estimated to meet <br />the growing water use demand until the year 2030. <br /> <br />Loan Program <br /> <br />The Lower Colorado Region has informed potential applicants for Public <br />Law 84-984 and Public Law 84-130 loans that new starts were zero funded <br />in fiscal year 1982 in accord with the President's economic program <br />and applications are not being submitted to the Washington Office at <br />this time.
