A final <br />report is scheduled for fiscal year 1983. <br /> <br />Lower Colorado River Water Conservation and Efficient Use Program. The <br />purpose of this special investigation is to examine potential water con- <br />servation measures and develop efficient use programs along the main <br />stream of the Colorado River between the Grand Canyon and t,e Mexican <br />boundary. A number of individual elements have been identified for study: <br />(1) conservation of Gila River floodflows; (2) urban water conservation; <br />(3) irrigation water conservation; (4) vegetation management; (5) water <br />banking; (6) evaporation reduction at Lake Mead; (7) legal and insti- <br />tutional implications; and (8) interrelationship with water quality. <br />Reports will be prepared on separate study elements with the initial <br />report on conservation of Gila River floodflows scheduled for completion <br />in fiscal year 1982. <br /> <br />Works for Others <br /> <br />Headgate Rock Hydroelectric Project. Headgate Rock Dam is the diversion <br />structure for Colorado River Indian Reservation irrigation and is located <br />on the Colorado River 14 miles downstream from Parker Dam. This low-head <br />hydroelectric project would develop 19.5 MW of new generation. Three <br />6,500-kW tube-turbine generating units would produce an average of <br />86,511,000 kWh annually to replace Arizona Public Service power being <br />used on the reservation. Construction funds appropriated for the Bureau <br />of Indian Affairs in fiscal years 1980 and 1981 were sufficient for <br />Reclamation to complete the specification designs . rne environmental <br />"Finding of No Significant Impact" has been approved. The Fish and <br />Wildlife Service Coordination Act Report was completed in April 1981. <br />A lterna ti ve approaches for conti nui ng deve I opment are bei ng cons i dered. <br />Funding is not currently identified in the fiscal year 1982 budget. <br /> <br />Yellowhouse Dam and Reservoir, Zuni Project, New Mexico~ The Bureau of <br />Indian Affairs requested the Bureau of Reclamation to prepare a feasi- <br />bi 1 ity report on the Yellowhouse Dam and Reservoi r located on the Zuni <br />Indian Reservation in order to correct dam safety and flood control <br />deficiencies as identified in the Reclamation report dated January 1969. <br />Reclamation has completed the investigations and has prepared a draft <br />feasibility report which is under review by the Bureau of Indian Affairs <br />and the Zuni Tri ba 1 Counci 1 . <br /> <br />Investigations in Progress--Advance Planning <br /> <br />Las Vegas Wash Unit.
