NEVADA:

Salinity Studies

Lower Gunnison Basin - The draft USDA report and Draft
Supplement to the Colorado River Water Quality Improve-
ment Program EIS are un~ergoing review by agencies and
groups interested in wa~er resource planning. The
report recommends treating all irrigated lands in the
basin. Priority is given to the irrigated lands i~
Delta County.

McE1mo Creek - Alternative plans are being developed.
The major on-farm improvements recommended will be
the conversion to sprinkler systems. Gravity pres-
sure sufficient to operate sprinkler systems can be
obtained over most of the irrigated area. Develop-
ment and review of the USDA report will be the major
activity in the next six months.

San Juan River Basin'. Work needed to develop a "Plan
of Work" for the study is underway.

Colorado River Salinity Control Program -
Virgin River Study

The Moapa Valley Subevaluation Unit report has been
published. The study shows a favorable potential for
reducing the salinity of Colorado River. Salinity
reduction measured downstream at Imperial Dam,
California would be 2 mg/1. A 19,500 ton salt load
reduction and water conserved, which provide the
salinity change, would be the result of improved
irrigation systems and water management.

NEW MEXICO:

The other subeva1uation units, Virgin Valley, Arizona,
Nevada and Upper Virgin, River, Arizona, Utah, also
show net benefits for a salinity control program of
improved irrigation systems and water management.
The report for Virgin Valley was distributed for
public comment and shows a 4 mg/1 reduction for the
subeva1uation unit. The report for Upper Virgin
River is undergoing internal review.

Lower Colorado Basin

A review of the draft Summary Report for the Little
Colorado River Basin Study was completed. The
Arizona study group is ~omp1eting the working papers
and final report.

Upper Colorado Basin

Two meetings were held in Aztec, New Mexito with
Colorado, New Mexico, ahd Arizona Soil Conservation

-4-
