The maximum allowed under the plan is <br /> <br />150,076 user days for the summer season, May 1 to Oct. I, and 19,874 for the rest <br /> <br />of the year. <br /> <br />These user days are further divided between commercial river runners who <br /> <br />charge passengers, and noncommercial do-it-yourself expeditions. Commercial <br /> <br />operators will be allocated 115,500 user days (106,156 of them in summer) and <br /> <br />noncommercial use will be allocated 54,450 (43,920 of them in summer). <br /> <br />Provisions for environmental protection, information and education, boating <br /> <br />safety, food and sanitation, monitoring, review and updating of the plan remain <br /> <br />basically the same as stated in the 1979 plan. <br /> <br />The draft provides for an ongoing monitoring program to assure the quality <br /> <br />of the canyon and river environment. <br /> <br />Accompanying the draft plan is a second. document, Draft Annual Operating <br /> <br />Requirements, which spells out the detailed regulations for implementing the <br /> <br />more general concepts of the principal document. Both were prepared by.Grand <br /> <br />Canyon National Park. <br /> <br />The public meetings on the plan each provide for an opportunity for the public <br /> <br />to chat informally with Park Service representatives from 1 to 5 p.m. followed by <br /> <br />a formal meeting from 8 to 11 p.m., local time. <br /> <br />The dates and locations of the meetings are: <br /> <br />Monday, July 6, American Room B, Little America Motel, 2515 Butler Avenue, <br /> <br />Flagstaff, Arizona. <br /> <br />(more) <br />
