New impetus was given the forest reserve and lmtershed <br />protection pror>ram5 of the Department of Agriculture. "." <br />,. <br /> <br />The Flood Control Act of 1936, Public Law 738, provided general <br />authorization for the Corps of Engineers and the Department of <br />Agriculture to ma!{e investigations, surveys, and reports. <br /> <br />In. 1943-44 the Corps of Ene;ineers and the Bureau of Reclamation, working <br />separately, completed investigations and presented to the Congress their <br />separate reports on the development of the Basin I s water resources. <br />During extensive hearings before the Congressional committees, the tlVO <br />plans were revised and coordinated bw the two agencies. This coordinated <br />plan, conunonly Imrnm as the Pick-Sloan Plan, was approved bw Congress <br />in the Flood Control Act of 1944.
