<br />Construction Hork has been initiated on the Salt Creek. Project near
<br />L:inc oln , Nebraska. The first unit of this project to be placed under
<br />contract l-laS the Antelope Creek Dam. The project will be about 24
<br />percent complete by the end of Fiscal Year 1963. The Department of
<br />Agriculture has a complementary prOc,Tam in this basin.

<br />At the Gering Valley Project; Nebraska, construction funds are avail-
<br />able. However, as a result of floods in 1957 and 1958 the situation
<br />was changed so extensively that plans had to be modified. In a joint
<br />program with the Soil Conservation Service, plans have been fo:rrmiLated
<br />and a feasibility report is before Congress. It is anticipated that
<br />construction 'Hill be initiated during Fiscal Year 1963.

<br />The Rathbun Dam and Reservoir Project L"l Imra on the Chariton River is
<br />in the preconstruction planning status. This work will be continued
<br />and the project will reach a status where construction can be started
<br />during Fiscal Year 1964 if funds are provided.
<br />
<br />A restudy of the Cottonwood Springs Dam and Reservoir upstream of
<br />Hot Springs, South Dalcota, is prograiiiiiiecfTcir Fiscal Year 1963.

<br />Operation and Maintenance
<br />
<br />Operation and Naintenance funds are required for those reservoir
<br />projects in an operational status and for the banl. stabilization work
<br />from Sioux City to the l110uth and for a short reach of the river above
<br />Sioux City. A small amotmt of funds are included for inspection of
<br />completed local protection projects. The increasing amount shown in
<br />the attached table is a reflection of additional projects becoming
<br />operational or greater requirements at projects like Oahe where power
<br />units are coming on the line.

<br />Investigations
<br />
<br />During Fiscal Year 1963 investigations will be underway in the South
<br />Platte River Basin, Colorado; Nishnabotna River in Iowa; Big Creek at
<br />Hays; and l1issouri River at Leavenworth, ICansas; Blue River at Kansas
<br />Citys, Grand and Platte Basin, Hissouri; Hissouri TIiver above Fort
<br />Peck, M::mtana; Nemaha, Little Nemaha, and Platte ITivers of Nebraska;
<br />the GreEn River, North Dalwta; and the Hissouri River, North and South
<br />Dalcota .and Nebraska. Several of these investigations will continue
<br />over into Fiscal Year 1964.
