Projects included in this
program include dams and reservoirs, levees, channel improvement and
appurtenant works. Work involves investigation, planning,. construction,
operation and maintenance.

This report presents a brief, concise statement on the current status
of construction and planning and indicates the work to be undertaleen in
forthcoming fiscal years if funds are received. It shows possible
requirements for Fiscal Year 1964 for planning purposes only as inclusion
of funds for future years must necessarily be determined in the light of
overall Federal fiscal situation and policy as established by the
President,

During Fiscal Year 1962 considerable progress ~Tas made by the Corps of
Engineers in carrying forward the portion of the overall water resource
development program under their jurisdiction. During the year construc-
tion work was being carried on at five reservoirs in addition to the six
main stem reservoirs; the navigation and bank stabilization project; the
agricultural levees; and ten local protection projects. A
brief description of progress on individual projects is given in the
follmr.ing paragraphs.
