.

.

v. Additional Requests for Water from Navajo Reservoir

Long-term water service contracts for municipal and industrial uses from
Navajo Reservoir involve a projection into the future of estimated water
uses and water supplies. The Bureau projection of water supply and
depletions from the Navajo Reservoir through the year 2039 is formulated
with the consultation of the State of New Mexico. The remaining block of
Navajo Reservoir water supply, as identified in the 1984 determination,
will still be marketed by the united States and will still be allocated in
consultation with the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission. New in-
dividual long-term water service contracts would also need the approval of
the Congress.

with an increase in the consumptive use of the Upper Basin to 6.0 MAF, the
proportionate share for the State of New Mexico of that increase will be
22,500 acre-feet per year of depletion. The following is a list of
additional municipal and industrial water service requests submitted in a
July 10, 1985 letter to the Bureau by the New Mexico Interstate Stream
Commission for Navajo Reservoir water when made available. No ranking or
priority system has been established at this time and all current and
future requests will be addressed equally.

TABLE 4

Additional Requests for Navajo Reservoir Water Service
and/or Contract Extensions

Request
Jicarilla Apache Tribe
Gallup-Navajo project
Paragon Resources
Public Service Company
of New Mexico
Bloomfield Refining
Southern Union Refining Co.
Farmington Elks Lodge

Amount (Acre-feet)
40,000 y
24,000
17,000

Contract Length
indefini te
indefinite
40 years

16,200
340
50
20

until 2025
until 2025
until 2025
until 2025

!/ Includes 3,000 acre-feet allowed for in the projected depletions
summarized in Appendix I.

20
