.'Z.-;::.~~

I

24

.

1

We would also request a better description of the areas

<>~~

--m
r-
CD

2

where selenium tests were run. The Bro~ns Park and Lewis forma-

3 tions are the most likely areas for selenium problems. Yet at

4 only two of the eight sites are we sure that the tests were run

5 in these two formations. In four other sites, it depends on

6 what part of the section was made and in two other sites they

7 are not in the formation at all. We would like to point out that

8 correlation of maps and figures is almost impossible in the

9 draft. The (Teologymap on page B-20 has no township and range

10 lines and had we not had the original maps from which this one

11 was made we would not have been possible to locate the sections

12 tested. We also feel that uranium and molybdenum should be

".....

13

included in the soils tests, as these elements along with sele-
.

f':;:

14 nium are synergistic and can be found quite toxic.

15 A second major area of deficienty in the draft state-

16 ment as well as the fish and wildlife position, is the lack of

17 discussion on potential coal development in the valley. There

18 are existent large preference right lease applications which

19 underlie the Little Snake River, presently irrigated lands,

20 lands proposed for irrigation and the critical wildlife habitat.

21 We would take a very dim view of developing more agriculture

22 only to dig it up for mining later.

23 We would like to request three things relative to coal

24

development:

That the BureaU of Land Management give assurance

25

to the Bureau of Reclamation that a preference right lease
