Giles, Acting Director <br />United States Dept. of the Interior <br />NatronarPafICServrce-;-Midwest-Reg ion- <br />1709 Jackson Street <br />Omaha, Nebraska 68102 <br /> <br />Dear Mr. Giles: <br /> <br />After reviewing the proposed plans for the Colorado <br />National Monument and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison area it <br />is my opinion that they have no effect upon the Department of <br />Local Affairs or its agencies as a department. <br /> <br />However, as in any circumstance which causes private <br />property to be removed from local property tax rolls, there is <br />'bound to be some effect on the county governments in which <br />jurisdictions these projects lie. I assume that the proper <br />county officials have been notified of the hearings as they <br />can relate the adverse effects of these proposals, if any, far <br />better than anyone at the state level, on local governments in <br />the area. <br /> <br />In the event such notice has not been given local officials <br />I am taking the liberty of forwarding your meeting dates to the <br />county commissioners. <br /> <br />Yours truly, <br /> <br /> <br />J.
