o G ;, 23'1

000 '\. ') "\.-

THE STATE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF COLORADO

Mr. Robert L. Giles
Acting Director, Midwest Region
The National Park Service
Midwest Region
1709 Jackson place
Omaha; Nebraska 68102

Re: 018 MWR C, XL48

Dear Mr. Giles:

~

We were pleased to receive copies of your park wilderness
proposals for the Black canyon of the Gunnison and The
colorado National Monuments. Although we are not directly
concerned with wilderness, we are vitally interested in
the quality of life in colorado and both of the Monuments
affected are indirectly related to our ute Indian regional
museum--forming a triangle of opportunities for visitors.

~

Although it may not be appropriate for the Historical
society to officially intrude on wilderness matters, we.
are most certainly in favor of greater. protection of the
,two Monuments and of the expansion of wilderness areas
in colorado so that future generations may be assured
the enjoyment of one of the important aspects of our
state which make it attractive to the entire nation.

Sincerely,

P;?1t/'

W.
