<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />serving as a liaison between the states and the three federal agencies; <br /> <br />and recommending to the three agencies the study of new projects, <br /> <br />techniques and methods to control salinity. <br /> <br />I\.) <br />c.n <br />...;I <br />00 <br /> <br />The Adviaory Council has had two meetings since its fOlmation. <br /> <br />The Council elected Don Paff, Nevada, ChaJ.rman, and Dan Lalvrence, <br /> <br />Utah, Vice Chairman. '1'he permanent Work Group of the Colorado Rive,: <br /> <br />Basin Salinity Control Forum was assigned to serve the Council in <br /> <br />the capacity of a technical review and study team. Myron lIolburt, <br /> <br />California, is Chairman of the Work Group. <br /> <br />Relationship to the Forum <br /> <br />Most of the members of the Advisory Council are also members of <br /> <br />the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum. The Council and <br /> <br />Forum are related in their activities but do have different functions. <br /> <br />P.L. 92-500, as interpreted by the Environmental Protection <br /> <br />Agency, required setting of numerical criteria for salinity for the <br /> <br />Colorado River including the establishment of an interstate organ i- <br /> <br />za tion to develop a salini ty control plan. '1'he Rasin states, in <br /> <br />response to EPA's requirements formed the interstate agency, the <br /> <br />Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum. The Forum developed <br /> <br />water quality standards for salinity for the Colorado River including <br /> <br />a plan of implementation which have been adopted by the s~ven basin <br /> <br />states as part of their state standards and are under consideration <br /> <br />by EPA. A permanent Work Group, under the authority of the Forum, <br /> <br />is charged with making the necessary studies, providing technical <br /> <br />advice and keeping current with events and changes which will enable <br /> <br />the Forum to make any needed revisions in the numeric cr.iteria and <br /> <br />plan of implementation. <br /> <br />2 <br /> <br />i <br />
