Recreational and Public 'Health Aspects

If, as thu Bureau predicts, there is an influx of tremendous numbers

of fishermen and recreationalists, it hardly seems fair to expect an area

deprived of a large percent of its tax base to pick up added burdens in

the areas of emergency services, police patrol and garbage collecting.

In their haste to provide flood protection and life saving measures

due to floods on the South Platte River, the Bureau seems to have over-

looked the indisputable fact that more lives are lost on the small Jackson

Lake due to boating accidents than lives lost to drowning below the Narrows

on the South Platte River.

The Bureau of Reclamation agrees with the recommendations of the

Public Health Service (Department of HEW) that the majority of these

.

problems must be dealt with and we feel that it is high time the solutions

and the costs be made a part of the Report on the Narrows Unit in Colorado.

.
