<br />. Duringth~ second fiscal year of the project, whioh ended June 30,
<br />1958, activities were confined principally to construotion on 3 of the
<br />~ storage un)ts; aoquisition and construction of service facilities; con-
<br />tilmation of ,advance planning on the Ourecanti storage unit, and the
<br />11 participating projects authoriZed for construCtion by the act and
<br />preconstruction work on the transmission division.. Oosts incurred

<br />Highlights. of certain of the major construction and advance
<br />planning activities are set forth in the following paragraphs:

<br />Glen Oanyon8torage unit
<br />At June. 30, 1958, work on the $108 million prime contract for
<br />constructionj of the dam was on schedule with 17 percent of the work
<br />completed in 17 percent of the contract time. The access highways
<br />to the dam: site were completed. Oonstruction of the steel arch
<br />highway bridge spanning the canyon ofthe Oolorado and connecting
<br />the new hig)1ways was on schedule. The bridge is expected to be in
<br />use ahead of the contract completion date of February 1959.
<br />Excavation of the two diversion tunnels was completed and the
<br />concrete lining work was started. Diversion of the Oolorado River is
<br />planned by the contractor for low water in February 1959.
<br />In the town of Page, Ariz., temporary facilities were provided by
<br />contractors to serve a work force of approximately 1,500 employees in
<br />June 1958. 'A trailer camp, dormitories, mess halls, and a temporary
<br />shopping cen.ter are located in the contractors' portion of the town.
<br />Work on permanent features for the town continues with construction
<br />ofhouses./ streets, water and sewer systems, laboratory, warehouses,
<br />municipal building, and other structures.
