We hope the hearings on the <br />budget will develop whether the proposals represent an economical rate <br />of construction expenditures for the Colorado River stora~e project. <br />By the end of the fiscal year, the Federal investment m the Colo- <br />rado River Storage Project Fund will approximate $204,000,000, or <br />about 32 percent of the authorized appropriations for the project. <br />. .The Cong\-ess, through the Appropriations Committees, will have <br />an- opportunjty to pass on the soundness of the budgetary presentation <br />before the elj.d of the .current session. - . . <br />_ In New Mexico, in order to put water tobe stored in Navajo Dam to <br />work, early authorization of the Navajo Indian irrigation umt is being <br />sought along with the first stage of the San Juan-Chama diversion as <br />Provided in S. 364~, pa~sed ~y t~e ~enate 'on ,August 15, 1?58. The <br />San Juan-Chama diverSIOn will aid III regulatIOn of the RIO Grande <br />River to provide additional municipal water supplies for New Mexico <br />.cities like Al)mquerque and Farmington.. . <br />The Navajo Irrigation.San Juan Chama authorization bill has been <br />reintroduced asS. 72 by me, with-my colleague., the senior Senator from <br />New Mexicd (Mr. Chavez), as cosp01lsor, Early hearings are antici- <br />pated on this measure and with our colleagues in the House, Repre- <br />. sentatives Montoya and Morris, we shall press for prompt enactment <br />at this sesshin. <br /> <br />. ,'. <br /> <br />, : . ^ ~: : .", : <br /> <br />.'.\~ <br />
