TIlE WINTER: SEASON

,
ALTERNATIVEIC
OAR-ONLY USE
OCTOBER 1 to
JANUARY 1

ALTERNATIVE D
THREE, TWO-WE~K OAR-
ONLY PERIODS DURING
THE SUMMER '
SEASON

Under this alternative, motor and oar-
powered trips would both be offered throughout
the year and there would be no scheduled periods
when motorized craft would be prohibited. The
summer season would be May 1 to September 30.
This alternative would allow the greatest
opportunities for the use of motorized craft.
Although no oar-only periods would be scheduled,
some oar-powered groups may experience trips
without interaction with motorized craft during
the winter (low use) season.

Under this alternative, motorized use would
be prohibited during the entire winter season
from October 16 through April 15. Those desiring
the oar-only option would be relegated to a less
ideal time of the year (considering weather).
Winter use levels have bistorically been low and
the demand for oar-only use during the winter
is uncertain. Under this option, groups who
prefer motor-powered trips would not be accom-
modated during the winter.

Under this alternative, motorized use would
be prohibited during three months of the winter
season. . Oar-only use would be permitted from
October 1 to January 1. Motorized use would be
permitted during the balance of the winter season
and during the entire summer season from April 16
to October 1. This option would provide for oar-
only use in the early fall when weather is still
fairly mild. In addition, it would provide
a choice between motors and oars for winter use.
User day limits would not be assigned to either
the motorized or non-motorized winter use periods.
Rather, the number of user days in both categories
would be allowed to fluctuate based on demand.
This would allow maximizing public choice while
minimizing the possibility of unused days.

Under this alternative, three, two-week oar-
only use periods during the summer season would
be scheduled. The summer season would extend
from April 16 to October 15. This alternative
would provide for oar-only use during a favorable
time of the year (considering weather). Total
separation of motor and oar use would not be pos-
sible during these two-week periods, because of
different rates of travel for motorized and non-
motorized craft.

9

-
