<br />. <br />3 Og~\E~!ENT NO.2 <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />OF THE FORT HCR CAN CHAi,::BcJl OF CO!.lIdERCE TO TIlE <br />COLOPJtDO \"ATER COaSERVATION BOARD <br /> <br />On September l3, 1951, the Narrows Dam COT'llllittee of the Fort Horgan Chamber of <br />Co"",,erce filed a statement nith the Colorado Water Conservation Board. The state- <br />l.~en'~ lias approved by the Board of Directors of the Chamber and emphasized three <br />iJoints ~ <br /> <br />l. That the building of tete NarroH3 Dam v:ould cause the destruction of a <br />large acreage of the fertile 'Ieldon Valle)', resulting in loss of taxes to <br />idorgan County and loss of business to Fort iiorgan, and urged, in the event <br />that the dam was built, that new compers ating acreage in the immediate area <br />ba made available to thEl displaced farmers in the ViElldon Valley. <br /> <br />2. That, in the Elvent tre Narrows Dam is built and the Union Pacific is <br />required to relocate its tracks, that the railroad choose tile route into <br />Fort Morgan, that route being the logical one both from the standpoint of <br />the community and the railroad. <br /> <br />3. That, if the Narrows Dam is built, that its location, capacity and <br />operation meet with the approval of local v:atcr int0rests and the Colorado <br />~ater Conservation Board. <br /> <br />The Board of ~irectors of the Fort Morgan Chanber of Commerce at a meeting <br />held on December 19, 1951, re-affirmed its position on the three points above <br />mentioned and v;u;'~ :O:urther on record as follov,'s: <br /> <br />l~ile we reco~ize that some form'of dam and reservoir is needed for <br />flood control and irrigation storage, not only on the South Platte River, <br />but also on Eijou and Kiowa Creeks, the Board of rirectors is opposed to <br />the construction of the Narrows Dam for the reasons outlined in Point 1 <br />on the Committee's statement and for their deep concern for the residents <br />of the \'Ieldon Val1c<Jwho vlould be subjected to great personal hardship in <br />the loss of t!leir homes. <br /> <br />ResFectfully submitted, <br /> <br />Fort dorgan Chamber of Commerce <br /> <br />By <br /> <br />December 19, 1951 <br /> <br />!s/Clifford Johnson, <br />;:;e~~'etary <br />
