One of the key elements in the
organization of this project was the isolation of the
primary team members in the Utah State Department of
Agriculture offices in Salt Lake City, Utah. The team
members were then able to concentrate on the project work
without major interruption of ordinary office duties. The
efficient work environment resulted in the Phase I work
being accomplished in two months instead of the planned
three and the extra work month allowed for the evaluation of
eight watersheds where seven had been planned.

A Steering Committee was organized to oversee the progress
of project. It consisted of representatives from the
following organizations:

Colorado River Basin Salinity Forum
US Department of Agriculture, Soil conservation Service
US Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation
US Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management
US Department of Interior, Geological survey
US Environmental Protection Agency
state of Utah, Department of Agriculture
State of Utah, Department of Health
Division of Environmental Health
State of Utah, Department of Natural Resources
Division of Natural Resources
Division of Water Resources

PROJECT COSTS

Project costs were divided among the four major
participants:
Bureau of Reclamation ---------- $100,000
Soil Conservation Service ------~$ 45,000
Bureau of Land Management -------$ 52,500
Utah Department of Agriculture --$ 29,500
TOTAL $227,000

These costs can be viewed in terms of the cost to implement
the Sand Wash Watershed project of approximately $471,500
(USDA, SCS, 1986). The products of the project were Report
of the Watershed Resource Inventory of the Colorado River
Basin in Utah and the six detailed Phase II reports of
resource evaluations for the eight targeted watersheds (four
of the watersheds were evaluated in two pairs due to
similarities). The estimated cost of the Phase I Colorado
