<br />002990 <br /> <br />WATER QUALITY RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES <br />OF <br />THE STATE OF NEVADA <br /> <br />Administration of the State water resources and water pollution con- <br />trol activities is the concern of several State agencies. These are <br />briefly described as follows: <br /> <br />Attorney General. <br /> <br />This office, with the consent of the Governor, shall commence actions, <br />suit or suits, as may be necessary to prevent or restrain pollution of <br />any pUblic stream or streams in the State of Nevada. <br /> <br />Fish and Game Commission <br /> <br />The Commission is charged with the development of a program of <br />fisheries and Wildlife, including the protection of resources, lands, <br />and streams, as may be necessary to carryon such a program. <br /> <br />Department of Water Resources <br /> <br />This Department is charged with the regulation of surface and under- <br />ground water as to volume and use. This program can include necessary <br />construction of wells to protect underground water supplies. <br /> <br />State Heali;h Department <br /> <br />The State Health Department is designated as the water pollution <br />1l:gency for the purpose of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act and <br />is authorized to take al.l necessary actions to secure the benefits of <br />this act. The State Heal.th Department is charged with the protection <br />of the water supplies and water resources of this State, including <br />regulation and. standards for discharges,and with taking actions to <br />correct pollution. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />8 <br /> <br />I, <br />
