for flood control. Approximately 11,000 acres of land can be irri-
gated from this storage.
2.. CEDAR BLUFFS PRoJECT.-The site currently under investiga-
tion by the Bureau of Reclamation is approximately four and one-
half miles east of Cedar Bluff cliffs on the Smoky Hill river in Trego
county. Tentative estimates based on preliminary investigations
indicate that a multiple purpose reservoir could be constructed at
this location with a capacity of 272,500 acre-feet, which would in-
clude 70,000 acre-feet storage for irrigating 13,000 acres of land be-
low the dam in Trego and Ellis counties; 40,000 acre-feet silt reserve
and 162,500 acre-feet of storage for flood control. In the event that
capacity in the Kanopolis reservoir be reserved for irrigation, re-
placement storage could be had in the Cedar Bluffs reservoir. Also
additional storage might be made available in the Kanopolis reser-
voir by reducing the silt reserve pool because of silt collected in the
Cedar Bluffs reservoir that would never reach the Kanopolis site.
RESERVOIRS PROPOSED FOR INVESTIGATION
1. ELKADER PROJECT.-The Elkader site is in southeastern Logan
county on the Smoky Hill river, south of Oakley. Sufficient investi-
gations have not been made to determine storage requirements. An
area of 5,000 to 10,000 acres lying north of the Smoky Hill river in
Gave county can be irrigated by a canal from the reservoir site.
Based on tentative estimates about 30,000 acre-feet of active ir-
rigation storage would be required to serve .5,000 acres of irrigable
land.
2. WILSON PaOJEcT.-The Wilson reservoir site is located on the
Saline river which is a tributary of the Smoky Hill river, The dam
site is located on the Ellsworth-RusseIl county line. A reservoir at
this location would control the runoff from a drainage area of 1,896
square miles. Preliminary investigations indicate storage require-
ments to be as follows: 61,000 acre-feet for irrigation, 10,000 acre-
feet for silt reserve and 94,000 acre-feet for flood. control.
3. WEBSTER PROJECT.-The Webster site is about three-fourths
of a mile east of Webster on the South Fork of the Solomon river
in Rooks county. Approximately 11,000 acres Of land in Osborne
county could be irrigated with an active storage of 61,000 acre-feet
in the reservoir. Preliminary investigations indicate that in addition
to the irrigation storage, 94,000 acre-feet of storage would be avail- .
able for flood control and 10,000 acre-feet for silt reserve.
4. GLEN ELDER PROJECT.-This site is located on the Solomon
