One storm center vas over the headwaters of Bijou <br />and Kiova Creeks, and it was estimated that 24 inches of rain fell <br />in a 12-hour period, nth the major portion falling in a 9-hour <br />period beginning at 1:00 p.m. on 30 May. The cloudburst caused <br />C.oods in the plains region of the South Platte River basin and <br />resulted in the flood of record to that date on the South Platte <br />River downstream from BiJou Creek. Peak discharges for this flood <br />are presented in table 2. The flood ndth exceeded 2 miles on the <br />lover South Platte River. Urban damage was reported at Fort Morgan, <br />Sterling, and Crook, Colorado; and at Big Springs" Ogallala, and <br />Paxton, Nebraska. A total of $1,425,340 in damages resulted. <br />Cropland and crops, irrigation structures and equipment, and high- <br />ways, railroads, and bridges were damaged.
