26.5

Fixed charge rates representative of municipal (6%) and private
(13%) rates were used. Costs are developed in a parametric fashion, using
1968 as the cost basis. Water costs are at the plant boundary, while power
costs include local transmission facilities. Both current and advanced
nuclear and fossil plant technology are assumed. Nuclear plants are of
~ the light water reactor (LWR) type. Desalting costs are based on both
ex> current technology and advances anticipated by 1985. Costs are allocated
~~ on the available energy basis. Cost results are shown in form of graphs
C) and charts by energy and water cost components. A procedure to determine
other water, power and process steam combinations utilizing the data developed
is shown. In addition to the generalized study, detailed costs are developed
for specific study cases of particular interest. The results of these cases
are shown in Appendix D. Energy costs developed on the parametric basis for
reference conditions are shown in Table 3-1.

TABLE 3-1

SUMMARY OF POWER AND PROCESS STEAM COSTS

],/ 2:.1
Plant Power
. This analysis indicates desalted water delivered
to the Salt Lake City distribution system would cost from about 20 to 33 cents
per 1000 gallon, or 63 to 108 dollars per acre-foot, depending upon the process
used and the character and source of the feed and blending water.

-7-

TABLE 3-1
