c.")
(" )
N
~
N
00

246,000 acre-feet of which 186,000 acre-feet would be allocated to
flood control, 40,000 acre-feet for sediment deposition, and 20,000
acre-feet to recreation. Joint use of the sediment capacity is also
being considered. In addition, a gated outlet works and an uncontrolled
spillway with a notch to control flows to the downstream capacity of
15,000 cubic feet per second would be provided.

Construction of Fountain Creek Darn would involve the relocation
of 8 miles of the D&RGW Railroad, 6.4 miles of U.S. Interstate 25
highway, one mile of county road, and 4 miles of power line. Con-
struction of the project would require the acquisition of 7,140 acres
in fee and flowage easement on 150 acres. The fee acquisition line
would be at elevation 4,924 feet.

The facilities for development of the recreational potential of
the Fountain Creek Dam would be of the type, quantity, and quality to
accommodate intensive general recreation and fishing use because of
the reservoir's proximity to the rapidly growing Colorado Springs-
Pueblo metropolitan areas and Interstate Highway 25. Recreational
development contemplates picnic units, picnic shelters, camping units,
parking, roads, launching ramps, a water supply, sanitary facilities,
a beach and change house, walks, trails, and a visitor center. Land-
scaping also would be provided.

The total estimated first cost of the potential Fountain Creek
Reservoir project is $33,488,000 of which $4,867,000 is estimated for
development of the recreation potential of the site. Studies are
presently being made to evaluate the benefits attributable to the
project and to determine its economic justification. Further infor-
mation regarding the results of these studies will be furnished to
all interested parties in the near future.

4

: - '-,' "-,:-,-
,",,-".,".'

'0.

.,',"

",_ ~r

'"",
