Wirth (801)524-5403 <br />August 13, 1993 <br /> <br /> <br />Bureau of Reclamation Announces Delay in Releas. of <br />Glen Canyon Dam Environmental rmpact statement <br /> <br />r <br /> <br />Release of the draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) on <br /> <br />~ <br />", <br /> <br />the operations of Glen Canyon Dam has been delayed for <br />approximately 3 months, according to the Bureau of Reclamation. <br />Upper Colorado Regional Director Roland Robison said the draft <br />EIS, scheduled to be released for public comment in August 1993, <br />was held in abeyance due to ongoing discussions between <br /> <br />r: <br /> <br />e <br />~~ <br />~~ <br />;; <br /> <br />;I,: <br />, <br />r;.: <br /> <br />~:' <br /> <br />~~ <br />;.", <br /> <br />Reclamation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) <br /> <br />..:- <br /> <br />concerning endangered species. <br /> <br />The agencies have now agreed on acceptable measures to <br />protect the endangered fish species below the dam in Glen and <br />Grand Canyons. Reclamation, according to RObison, now expects <br />the FWS to complete a draft Biological Opinion on the EIS's draft <br />preferred alternative for future operational criteria for the <br />Glen Canyon Dam. <br /> <br />The public commeht period on the draft EIS will be delayed <br />until late 1993 and into the new year, and the EIS is scheduled <br />to be completed by October 1994.
