'J41?1) <br /> <br />~.... <br />'.....7> <br /> <br />~ <br />c. : <br />C;. <br /> <br />1.0 <br /> <br />I NTRODUCTI ON <br /> <br />This report summarizes Sali~e Water Transport and Use Office planni~g and <br />related activities on t~e AQUATRAIN Project for t~e previous month and a~tici- <br />pated activities for the coming 'l1Onths. The purpose of the report is to <br />inform individuals involved with AQUATRAIN of current and upcoming activities <br />so that a coordinated effort can be maintained and project flag dates met. <br /> <br />Interior Secretary William Clark called a briefing of policy-level governmen- <br />tal officials on April 20 in Washington, D.C., to advise them of the status of <br />the AQUATRAIN Project and to seek interagency cooperation to achieve the goals <br />of the project. In attendance were representatives of the following <br />Departments and Offices: Departments of Interior, Transportation, State, <br />Defense, Agriculture, Justice, Energy, and Commerce; White House Office of <br />POlicy; Office of the Vice President; National Security Council; Interstate <br />Commerce Commission; Federal Railroad Administration; Environmental Protection <br />Agency; Office of Management and Budget; Bureau of Mines; Agricultural <br />Research Service; Fish and Wildlife Service; Bureau of land Management; U.S. <br />Geological Survey; and Bureau of Reclamation. It is anticipated that this <br />meeting will pave the way for future cooperation with these entities. <br /> <br />David Williams of Western Water Reserves, Inc., has announced the appointment <br />of Morgan Greenwood as President of Aquatrain, Inc. Greenwood has extensive <br />experience in the pipeline industry. Tom Clark of Western Water Reserves con- <br />tinues as Chairman of the Board of Aquatrain, Inc. <br /> <br />Western Water Reserves, Inc., has announced actions it intends to take in the <br />next 6-9 months on the AQUATRAIN Project: <br /> <br />* A formal market research study to evaluate markets for AQUATRAIN-shipped <br />commodities (anticipated completion date - June 30) <br /> <br />* Contracts with International Engineering Company and Ernst & Whinney to <br />complete engineering designs, costs estimates, and financial analyses on <br />a mainline trunk, with laterals, from Wyoming to California (anticipated <br />completion date - July 31) <br /> <br />* Conditional contracts for use of the pipel ine system to secure develop- <br />ment costs (anticipated to be inplace by September) <br /> <br />* Pilot plant tests and commercial scale-up on the liquid C02/coal slurry <br />and ChemCoal technologies will continue. <br />
