<br />""" <br />~ <br />.. <br />~ <br />c <br />c:. <br /> <br />Control room for the Tucson <br />Water Transmission System <br /> <br />(continued) <br />ing plants are necessary to raise the water <br />nearly 3,000 feet uphill from Lake Havasu <br />to the end of the CAP southwest of <br />Thcson. <br />All the facilities of the CAP are con- <br />trolled from a central computer system in <br />the project headquarters in Phoenix, <br />Water flow is regulated through the use of <br />radial-gated check structures located <br />about every seven miles in the system. <br />Water is diverted to water users through <br />gated turnouts at various points in the <br />system. <br />Pumping plants, check structures, and <br />turnouts in the CAP are operated elec- <br />trically using power from the Navajo Gen- <br />erating Station near Page, Arizona. <br />The first Central Arizona Project water <br />arrived in the Phoenix area in May of 1985 <br />and since then more than 925,000 acre, <br />feet of water have been delivered to cen- <br />tral Arizona, CAP water will arrive in <br />Thcson in 1991.
