<br />{i):OS'l <br /> <br />'There are 58,000 acres of land in the Colorado section of the area <br />and 57~000 acres of land in Kansas, all under existing irrigation systems <br />which are not now consistently irrigated due to lack of adequate water <br />supplies. <br /> <br />The land now consistently irrj.gated in Colorado and Kansas is fre- <br />quently in need of supplemental water for 'Jptimum irrigation operation. <br />In this study it has been assumed that the irrigated acreage can be <br />adjusted yearly to conform to available water supplies, and that the <br />average annual supply made available Qy the Granada Project will be <br />utilized each year~ <br /> <br />Irrigatio~l_benefi ts <br /> <br />Irrigation benefits would result from the operation of the Granada <br />Reservoir due to increased and impro\'ed irrigation in Colorado and Kansas <br />below the John Martin Reservoir; and upstream from John Martin Reservoir <br />in the Trinidad area, by reason of the increased supplemental supply 0;: <br />water made available to the Trinidad Project through replacemont of <br />depletions to John Martin Reservoir, which could be made fl'om the GrBl1nd9. <br />Project. " -" .. , . . . 0, . $ 51,500 <br />Benefits in Kansas. . . . . . . . . . .. 49,400 <br />Benefits in the Trinidad area. . . . . .. 13,000 <br />Total. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $113,900 <br /> <br />Repayment capacity <br /> <br />After proper allowances have been made for increased farm operating <br />costs~ improved family living conditions, the increased farm income <br />rosulting from the Granada Reservoir Projoct would support an annual <br />payment for operation, maintenanco and replacement costs and retirement <br />of capital cost of $2.09 per acre-foot of water delivered at the roservoir <br />for the OolQrado and Kansas section of the project, a total of $39,7000 <br />A similar repayment capacity which would result in the Trinidad area is <br />" <br />about ~,13,000 annually. <br /> <br />FISH AND vVIWLIFE CONSERVATION <br /> <br />One of the purposes of the potential Granada Resorvoir VIould be to <br />prOVide replacement water to <f fset depJo tions to the John Martin Reser- <br />voir supply which would result from maintenance of a permanent fish pool <br />in the John Martin Reservoir. A permanent fish pool of 3,000 acro-feet <br />would also be provided in tho Granada Reservoir. An evaluation of the <br />benefits which would be derived from maintenance of permanent pools for <br />conservation of fish life and as a rosting and nosting area for migratory <br />water fowl has beon made by the Colorado State Gamo and Fiffi Commission. <br /> <br />- 8 - <br /> <br />
