1
f

7. Surface water recreation
The large economic values generated by reservoir recreation
require consideration of this use. Relationships between
recreation and~eservoir elevation should be at least
qualitatively defined.

Recuired Model Outouts
Reservoir elevations, surface area
Recreation values at various reservoir levels (includinq
fishing, swimming, boating, camping, day-use, hunting)
Aesthetics of recreation surroundings

8. Stable boat/recreation facilities on reservoirs

Economic impacts occur as boat docks and other recreation
facilities react to changing reservoir levels. Design and
location of these facilities were apparently oriqinally based on
full-reservoir levels. Future depletion increases will change
the way that facilities must adjust to these levels. Additional
construction or relocation may ameliorate changes.

Recuired Model Outouts
Reservoir levels
Time factor in drawdowns and refills (short- and long-term)

9. Enbance Critical Habitat (natural hydroqraph/temperature
reqime)

Recent designation of Critical Habitat for the 4 Colorado River
endangered fish will likely influence other uses of water.
Changes in uses will require evaluation of the impact on critical
Habitat as well as other endangered/threatened species.

Recuired Model Outouts
Characteristics of natural flows (spring peaks, sediment
transport, seasonal flows, rising/falling limbs)
Temperature (mainstream, backwater, side channels)
Water quality

10. Treaty deliveries to Kexico

The 1944 international treaty addresses the normal, surplus and
shortage deliveries to Mexico. Changes in water delivery
practices may affect the long-term volumes of water delivered
under the treaty. Specific criteria to deliver surplus or
shortage annual volumes have not been established, but surplus
deliveries should be minimized. The salinity implications of the
Yuma desalting plant, the lining of the Coachella Canal, and
Welton-Mohawk drainage flows in the Santa Clara slouqh are also
part of the Mexican delivery issue.

Reauired Model Outputs
(Same as Item # 5)
