Backeround Tom Simpson reviewed the Memorandum of Agreement between SECWCD and CSU to develop water storage projects in the Arkansas River Basin. Tom Simpson and Dick Westmore provided background on the past studies of water demands, storage needs, and storage alternatives in the Basin. It was noted that the six alternatives described in the "Storage Alternatives Assessment Summary" are the only ones remaining for consideration by CSU/SECWCD. New storage projects considered previously (e.g., Elephant Rock, Clear Creek, Chalk Creek) are no longer being studied. (Elephant Rock is formally still a viable project only because CSU retains the water rights for this project.) However, it was also noted that other agencies such as Pueblo Board of Water Works have other storage development projects that are being pursued outside of the CSU/SECWCD process.
