co
C\J
In
.-j

CHAPTER IV

COMPREHENSIVE DEVELOPMENT

Cement Creek Reservoir site. Photograph taken from
right abutment of dam site.

Water from the East River and Cement Creek Reservoirs ~ould be re-
leased to the stream channels below the reservoirs. Irrigation diver-
sions ~ould be made to lands along East River from the reservoir to the
mouth of the river. About 1.6 miles belo~ the junction of the East Riv-
er and Cement Creek a portion of the project water supply would be divert-
ed into the Almont Power Canal and conveyed by the canal about 11 miles
south~ard to the Almont Powerplant to be constructed at an offstream site
between the Taylor and East Rivers. A regulatory forebay and afterbay
would be constructed in connection with the powerplant. Releases from
the'afterbay would flow into the Taylor River.

Part of the project ~ater reaching the Gunnison River from the East
and Taylor Rivers would continue in the river to maintain the Uncompahgre
project's present supply and to provide adequate fishery flows. The re-
mainder would be diverted into the Gunnison Highline Canal for use in the
Ohio Creek area. The Highline Canal would be enlarged, extended, and re-
aligned as a project feature. Releases from the Highline Canal ~ould in-
crease the supply for lands along lower Ohio Creek and also would replace
some of the natural streamflow supply for these lands, releasing the nat-
ural flo~s for use farther upstream.

18
