1'-
C\J
Lf')
..j

CHAPTER IV

COMPREHENSIVE DEVELOPMENT

crossing to release water to the stream and also when desirable to divert
flows from the stream to the canal. The canal would serve lands along
Ohio and Antelope Creeks, all of which are considered to be in the Ohio
Creek area. The Gold Basin Canal would cross Tomichi Creek and meander
southwest to serve land in the Cochetopa Creek area. From the lower por-
tion of the Taylor Canal diversions would be made directly from the canal
to project land in the Tomichi Creek area.

Water in Taylor Canal reaching Alder Creek Reservoir at the canal
terminus would be used for irrigation in the Tomichi Creek area. Surplus
flows would be stored in the reservoir until the peak irrigation season
and then released as needed to supplement canal flows. Water from the
reservoir would be released to the potential Doyleville Canal. This
canal would serve lands south of Tomichi Creek and would deliver water
to the creek for use on lands below the canal outlet in exchange for nat-
ural flows that would be used farther upstream. Further distribution of
water in the Tomichi Creek area would be made by the Hot Springs Canal
and the Parlin Flats lateral that would branch from the Doyleville Canal.

East River division

The water supply for the hast River division would be provided from
the flows of the East River and its tributaries, Slate River and Cement
Creek, and from project return flows. Storage would be provided on the
East River at the East River Reservoir and on Cement Creek at the Cement
Creek Reservoir. The natural flow at the East River Reservoir would be
augmented by flows of Slate River that would be conveyed to the reservoir
by the Slate River Canal. En route to the East River Reservoir this ca-
nal would provide water to lands in the East River area between the East
and Slate Rivers south of Crested Butte.

I~ast Ri vcr Reservoir site.
