Of' this amount <br /> <br /> <br />it is estimated that $21,000,000 is for the f'lood-control channel <br /> <br /> <br />and dikes. <br /> <br /> <br />Phase 3 involves totaJ. overalJ. river reguJ.ation on the Lower <br /> <br /> <br />Colorado River and wouJ.d consist of' integrating ground-vater puIIqling <br /> <br /> <br />vith the river regulation that vill be provided by Senator Wash <br /> <br /> <br />RegUlatory Reservoir now under construction. <br /> <br /> <br />The studies on which the above recommendations are made incJ.udedl <br /> <br /> <br />(1) periodic vater ssmpllng and snaJ.yses from selected locations on <br /> <br /> <br />the Colorado River and on drains providing return fl.ow to the river <br /> <br /> <br />below Hoover Dam; (2) forty-nine 12-inch test vells drilled to an <br /> <br /> <br />average depth of-130 f'eet from wich both water and soU ssmples <br /> <br /> <br />were collected at varying depths to evaJ.uate in detail the quantity, <br /> <br /> <br />quality, and loca"tion of ground water underlying the \lellton-Mohawk <br /> <br /> <br />Valley; (3) numerous shallow test borings in both the irrigated and <br /> <br /> <br />non1rrigated areas of' the Wellton-Mohawk District from whicb soil <br /> <br /> <br />and water ssmpl.es were taken to evaJ.uate the degree of' land recla- <br /> <br /> <br />mation acco~llsbed and rpmR1n1ng to be acco~lished; (4) a f'ield <br /> <br /> <br />study of' soiJ.a in the MexicaJ.1 Valley, which was limited by Mexico <br /> <br /> <br />to one veek, during which samples were coll.ected f'rom 20 type <br /> <br /> <br />locations and subjected to detailed laboratory analyses; <br /> <br />iv <br />
