By diverting the stream flow in excess of
125 cfs in the offpeak months, monthly flow reductions between 30
and 60 percent occur in a wet year such as 1973, between 10 and 40
percent in a normal year such as 1966, and between 0 and 30 p~rcent
in a dry year such as 1977. During the spring peak the greatest
reductions occur in a dry year with very little reduction occurring
in a wet year.

Aztec and Farmington would divert project M&I water from the Animas
River in New Mexico. When project water was not released from
Ridges Basin Reservoir but supplied directly from the river to M&I
users in New Mexico, which would be about 96 percent of the time,
the river flow would be decreased below the diversion point for
each M&I system. When water was released from the reservoir, the
flow of the river would be increased from the Durango Pumping Plant
to the first M&I diversion point. Under project conditions the
flow below the first diversion would either be increased or
decreased, depending on the amount of the release, the M&I demand,
and the reach of river. The historic monthly flows at Farmington
are listed in Tables 1 and 5. The flow of the Animas River at
Farmington with and without the project is shown in the following
table and Figures 7 through 9:

.
