Fairchild <br />August 19, 1974 <br />Page fourteen <br /> <br />University to study the biological aspects of the spring waters <br />that will be collected and desalinized by some technique. <br /> <br />The Corps of Enqineers civil works planning activities <br />during FY 1974 are summarized as follows: <br /> <br />a. Investiqations - The Sacramento District's <br />major study authority in the Colorado River Basin is for the <br />investigation of the Colorado River and tributaries above Lee <br />Ferry, Arizona. The study area consists of 109,600 square miles, <br />including the part of Colorado west of the Continental Divide. <br />The purpose of the study is to investigate the overall flood and <br />related water resource problems and to develop plans for solution <br />of such problems. <br /> <br />b. Cooperative Studies - The Corps furnished <br />information on flood problems and potential flood control benefits <br />to the Bureau of Reclamation in connection with its investigation <br />of the West Divide, Dolores, and Animas-La Plata Projects. Flood <br />related input was also furnished to the Western U. S. Water Plan <br />study. <br /> <br />c. Floodplain Manaqement Studies - A floodplain <br />information report covering the Roaring Fork River and Castle and <br />Hunter ,Creeks was' completed and a presentation on flood hazards <br />was made to local interests. A report covering the Animas River <br />and tributaries was essentially completed. Numerous flood hazard <br />evaluations have been made for subdivisions, water and sewage <br />facilities. and other planned construction in western Colorado. <br /> <br />2. Construction Activities <br /> <br />Construction on the Bostwick Park Project, a Bureau of <br />Reclamation Project, was completed. The 3-year development period <br />for the project will commence January 1, 1976. <br /> <br />Construction continued on the Crystal Dam and Powerp1ant. <br />the final phase of the Curecanti Unit, Upper Colorado River Storage <br />Project. <br />
