,

Metropolitan Water Supply Investigation Proposal
Hydrosphere, Inc.

Septmber 17, 1993
Page 59

Linkages With Other Tasks

This task will use data from Tasks II and 12 to identify areas where direct and indirect
impacts to applicable resource categories could occur. Data from Tasks 4,5,6,7, and 8 will
be used in defining environmental baseline cond itions.

Likely Sources of Information To Be Used

In addition to information generated from. the related tasks listed above and the TSC, this
task will rely primarily upon existing information available from federal, state and local
agencies concerned with various types of resource management. These sources would likely
include but not be limited to the following:

City and County Planning Depanments
Agencies of the Colorado Depanment of Natural Resources:
Division of Water Resources
Water Conservation Board
Division of Wildlife
Division of Parks & Outdoor Recreation
Colorado Geological Survey
Board of Land Commissioners
Ground Water Commission
Natural Areas Council
Soil Conservation Board
Colorado Depanment of Agriculture
Colorado Department of Health
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
U.S. Geological Survey
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
U.S. Bureau of Reclamation

Anticipated Problems

Targeted opportunities for integration and more effective utilization of existing water
supply systems could increase the consumptive use of water and diminish streamflows to the
Lower South Platte River. While this could be beneficial in terms of increased use of
Colorado's compact entitlement, it could trigger concerns over potential impacts to downstream
critical habitat for threatened and endangered species of birds. This issue will require special
attention both in terms of potential adverse impacts and possible approaches to and
opportunities for development of reasonable and prudent alternatives.

Deliverables

For each selected alternative, a technical memorandum will be developed which
summarizes environmental assessment findings and conclusions. In some cases, it may be
necessary to recommend further investigations as necessary to generate more specific and
conclusive information.

Cost

The initially estimated budget for this task is $15,000.
