Metropolitan Water Supply Investigation Proposal
Hydrosphere, Inc.

Septmber 17, 1993
Page 52

Special Studies - Other Studies
Purpose

The primary purpose of this task is to provide an contingency budget for investigating
other systems integration ideas that may surface during Study process and/or to provide for
more in-{)epth evaluation of issues and concerns.

Methodology and Evaluation Techniques

The procedure for completion of this task will be determined when specific ideas or
issues are identified.

Deliverables

The work products for this task will be determined when specific ideas or issues are
identified.

Cost

The initially estimated budget for this task is $20,000.

Model SpecificBtion

Purpose

At a minimum, some form of analytical capability will be needed to evaluate the specific
water supply options developed in the Study. In addition, a model with a good deal of
flexibility will be desirable in order to facilitate the exploration of additional water supply
ideas that may surface during the Study after the model is developed.

Under this task, a determination will be made regarding the suitability of existing models
for these purposes, based on the findings of Task 4. This task will then specify the Study's
modeling needs either in terms of a new model or modifications to an existing model.

Methodology and Evaluation Techniques

In Task 4, an inventory will be made of the capability and flexibility of existing
modeling tools available for use in the Study. Tasks 5 through 9 will develop more detailed
information on specific water supply options that will have a bearing on the Study's model
needs.

Based on the results of these earlier efforts, in this task a model specification will be
developed which captures both the analytical requirements posed by the water supply options
being considered and the inherent analytical flexibility needed to quickly evaluate a variety of
other system integration ideas which may subsequently arise in later phases of the Study.
