.

The Hiwan Golf Course is only partially irrigated from water
taken from the Evergreen System. The quantity has historically been
supplied under a 1967 agreement which provides for up to 500,000
gallons per day subject to availability, and subordinate to domestic
and other uses. Sales for the Golf Course have varied greatly and,
were approximately 7,000,000, 10,000,000 and 34,000,000 gallons for
1976, 1977 and 197~, respectively. The average rate of use for 1978
was adopted for projecting future use, since it represents a dry-year
consumption comparable to the droughts analyzed.

.

.

.

.

Description of Bear Creek Watershed.

.

.

Bear Creek is the source of supply for the Evergreen water system.

The watershed contains about 261 square miles above the mouth. The

stream is a tributary of the South Platte River aod generally flows

from west to east.

.

.

Elevations range from about 5,300 feet near the Creek mouth to
14,000 feet at the western head of the basin on Mount Evans. The
primary source of water supply is from snowmelt 00 the high mountainous
,
western portion of the basin located above Evergreen. However, thunder-
storms often occur in the watershed in the spring, summer and fall
months.

.

.

.

Drainage area above Evergreen is 101 square miles and elevations

range from 7,072 at Lake Evergreen to 14,000 feet on Mount Evans.

This portion of the watershed is mostly forested. The stream channel

slopes average about 200 feet per mile. Average elevation of the

watershed above Evergreen is 9,540 feet. There are several ditches

and wells which divert in this reach. However, all are junior to

the most senior Evergreen right.

.

.

.

The watershed transitions from alpine mountain characteristics

to the more gradual sloping terrain of the Denver Metropolitan areas

as the stream traverses through the foothills between Evergreen and

.

I

-12-

.
