Detailed investigation and appropriate field-level coordination with other agencies <br />and interests are required.) <br /> <br />Report <br /> <br />Schedule of Operations <br /> <br />ARKANSAS & RED RIVER <br />BAS INS - WATER <br />POLLUTION SWDY <br /> <br />ARKANSAS & RED RIVERS <br />TO OKLAHOMA CITY, <br />OKLAHOMA <br /> <br />ARKANSAS RIVER, <br />WYRARK & CII0SKA, <br />OKLAHOMA <br /> <br />". <br /> <br />Scope & Location <br /> <br />Special study of survey-report scope of <br />possible ways & means to eliminate or <br />reduce the now of chlorides from <br />natural sources into rivers & streams <br />to improve the quality of surface water. <br />The natural chloride sources under <br />study in the Arkansas River Basin are <br />in the vicinity of Rattlesnake Creek, <br />Kansas & Great Salt Plains & Cimarron <br />River in Oklahoma. Red River Basin <br />sources are in the vicinity of Elm Fork <br />in Oklahoma & Prairie Dog Town Fork, <br />Pease River & Wichita River in Texas. <br /> <br />Survey-scope study of the advisability <br />for transbasin diversion of water from <br />reservoirs in Red River Basin to the <br />central Oklahoma area in the Arkansas <br />River BaslU. Diversion by pipeline & <br />navigation canal is being considered. <br />Also extension of navigation from the <br />Arkansas River to the Oklahoma City <br />area is being considered. <br /> <br />Determination of feasibility & justifi- <br />catian of the emergency bank protection <br />works authorized conditionally by the <br />flood Control Act of 1962. <br /> <br />Investigations of 15 areas are continuing. <br />Various plans are under consideration for im- <br />provement & management of water quality. Two <br />experimental projects are scheduled to be con- <br />structed in vicinity of Estelline & Guthrie, <br />Texas. Tests are to be made at these projects. <br />Progress on the over-all study indicates the <br />report will be completed not later than summer <br />1964. A draft of the report will be submitted <br />to all interested agencies for field-level re- <br />view prior to canpletion of the report. <br /> <br />The investigation, initiated in FY 1962, will <br />be continued. The Board of Engineers for <br />Rivers & Harbors is participating in the study. <br />Study of irrigation requirements in the area <br />that would be served by a project of this type <br />is being made by the Bureau of Reclamation. <br />Coordination with other interested field agen- <br />cies may be required during FY 1963. The re- <br />port is scheduled for ccmpletion in IT 1964. <br /> <br />Study & preparation of report are tentatively <br />scheduled to be accomplished during the cur- <br />rent fiscal year. <br /> <br />Page 1 of 6 <br />
